Fans know Batman as a superhero who uses his excessive wealth for his advanced weaponry and strategies. On the first day of New York Comic Con, more info about the ‘Batman Ninja’ anime film left fans in awe.
Batman has no superhuman powers nor magical abilities. Instead, he relies on his athletic skills and intellect to fight his enemies. Warner Bros. Japan showcased a panel on the NYCC regarding the full-length film titled ‘Batman Ninja.’
The new Batman film will be a legit anime-styled film. Director Jumpei Mizusaki (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure), character designer Takashi Okazaki (Afro Samurai), and screenwriter Kazuki Nakashima (Kill la Kill) are few of the people that will contribute to the Japanese-inspired movie.
Batman Ninja in Medieval Japan!
It’s not only that Batman will be animated in Japanese style but also the setting will be in Japan! ‘Batman Ninja’ is set in medieval Japan where there is no advanced technology in sight. People there lived simple lives, and this is the period where the brave samurai existed. In NYCC, Warner Bros. Japan and Warner Bros. Entertainment released a short trailer to show fans what to expect in the film. The trailer also showed his enemies such as Penguin, Joker, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Two-Face, and Gorilla Grod. Unfortunately, there is no official video trailer available yet on the Internet.
Given Batman’s background, fans will get culture shock as Batman usually did his superhero duties with a lot of gadgets and advanced stuff to his arsenal. The Batman characters time-traveled, and it will be a treat to watch because Batman and his enemies will try to fit in into the Japanese culture!

From the above picture, Batman wears a different costume than his usual tights and his underwear on the outermost layer. In the film, Batman’s costume features a “hakama,” a normal male clothing in medieval Japan. On top of his fabric clothing is a layer of armor akin to a samurai’s. He also wears a “waraji” or traditional Japanese footwear made of straw. Furthermore, he wields two weapons used by ninjas. These are the “kunai” and a short sword called “shinobigatana” or “ninjaken.” Of course, all are in color black because that’s his signature!
Will You Watch It?
Unfortunately, the producers intend to make a direct-to-video film for ‘Batman Ninja.’ This means that the film will release on Blu-ray and DVD formats come next year, 2018.
‘Batman Ninja’ is not the first Batman film to get its anime adaptation. Japanese anime studios such as Production I.G. and Madhouse animated the 2008 film ‘Batman: Gotham Knight.’
